What does thePointMonster do?
We watch every live NBA and college basketball game, every minute.
Late in the game, our model shows one result: conditions met, or not.
What is a game total?
It's both teams' points added together.
The sportsbook picks a number. That number is called the line.
OVER = you think the game ends with more points than the line.
UNDER = you think it ends with fewer.
Overtime counts. Lines end in .5, so there are no ties.
What do FIRE and Stay Away mean?
The game is on. We check it every minute.
The decision window opens soon.
The line is far enough from our number. Every condition is met while the window is open.
The line is too close to our number. Conditions not met. Most games end here, on purpose.
thePointMonster Total = our number for the final score, both teams together.
How do I read a FIRE?
- The card shows the game and the FIRE number.
- Sportsbooks list this as Game Total (also listed as Total Points).
- For an OVER, the conditions hold at the same line or lower. For an UNDER, the same or higher.
- Many people use 1 unit, a fixed amount, for every decision.
- Tap Track It in the app to save it to your record.
If the line has moved past the FIRE number, the conditions no longer hold.
How do I read a game card?
- Status: Watching → Get Ready → FIRE → Done.
- Live Total: points scored so far, both teams together.
- thePointMonster Total: our number for the final score.
- vs Live Line: the sportsbook's live game total right now. The bar shows how far apart the two numbers are.
- Boxes (college): a green check means that condition is met. All lit = FIRE.
- Your Books: each book's line. The one outlined in gold is the lowest line.
- The Decision: FIRE with OVER or UNDER and the line, or Stay Away when conditions aren't met.
When does each decision happen?
- NBA and WNBA Game Total: 4th quarter, from 6:30 to 5:00 left.
- College Game Total: the last minutes of the 2nd half.
- College Team Total: the last minutes of the 2nd half, for the team that's winning.
The decision only counts while the book still has its line up. Line gone? Conditions no longer hold.
OVER, UNDER or Stay Away?
- OVER: the book's line is a lot lower than thePointMonster Total.
- UNDER: the book's line is a lot higher than thePointMonster Total.
- Stay Away: they're too close. Conditions not met.
What do the college boxes mean?
Game Total (4 boxes):
- Fast Game: both teams are scoring a lot tonight.
- Good Lead: one team is winning, but not by too much.
- Losing Team Fouling: the team behind fouls on purpose to stop the clock, which gives out free points.
- Decision Window: when the model checks the line.
Team Total (7 boxes): Good Lead · Leader in the Bonus · Fast Game · Winning the 2nd Half · Good Season FT% · Good FT% This Game · Decision Window.
What is a unit?
A unit is your normal bet size.
Pick it once and keep it the same.
Keep it small: 1% to 2% of the money you set aside for betting.
At normal odds (-110), you bet $110 to win $100.
How do I stay safe?
Many people use 1 unit, a fixed amount, for every decision.
Never double up after a loss.
Losing streaks happen, even with good numbers.
Only bet money you can afford to lose.

Smart Betting
Where the value is, and where it isn't.
Why live, not before the game?
A pregame line is built before anything has happened. It's a forecast.
Once the game starts, real things happen: a slow game speeds up, a hot team goes cold, the losing team starts fouling.
thePointMonster reads what is actually happening, every minute, and decides late in the game, when far less is left to happen.
Bonus: nothing rides on the opening tip, so there's no stress watching a pregame pick go wrong in the first five minutes.
Why doesn't thePointMonster do parlays?
A parlay joins bets together. Every leg must win, or you lose it all.
The sportsbook takes its cut on every leg, so the cut stacks up.
Two coin flips joined: the fair payout is +300. Books pay about +260. The gap is their cut.
That's why books push parlays, and why one big parlay win on social media is free advertising for the house.
thePointMonster gives single decisions only: one game, one number, judged on its own.
The Mindset
Money management keeps you in the game. Mindset keeps you thinking clearly.
What does "We'll See" mean?
An old story: a farmer's son is a great rider. Neighbours say "how lucky." The farmer says "We'll see."
The son falls and breaks his back. "How terrible." "We'll see."
War comes, and the injured son doesn't have to go. "We'll see."
No single result is all good or all bad. Stay level after a win, and after a loss.
Like a great shooter: miss one, take the next good shot anyway. Short memory, long view.
Is a losing night a failure?
The result. It's outside your control. Good bets lose sometimes.
Breaking your own rules. That part is inside your control.
A losing week is a Learning Week if you look back and learn from it.
How do I judge my own bets?
Judge the decision, not the result. Every bet you track gets a Good Bet check:
- It was a FIRE (all conditions met).
- You placed it inside the Decision Window.
- Your line was at or better than the FIRE number.
- The price was at or above the limit on the card.
- You bet your normal unit, no bigger.
After each result, My Bets asks: "Would you make this bet again?" Your weekly review shows your answers.
What if I want to win it back?
That feeling is called chasing. It's the fastest way to turn a bad night into a bad month.
If you track a bigger bet, or a bet that isn't a FIRE, right after a loss, the app shows a We'll See note and offers a break until tomorrow.

Why do results change from season to season?
No two seasons are the same. Teams, coaches and books all change.
That's why every rule is checked on past seasons before it goes live and tracked all season, so it can adapt.
